Parrots are intelligent, extremely colorful, and very pleasant to look at, highly social and complex beings with a life span of up to 50 to 80 years. They always bring joy to people who see them, especially the children. Good thing there are people in Naples, Florida who have their hearts in the right place.
The Bird Gardens of Naples is a nonprofit organization whose primary purpose is the conservation of parrots by rescuing them from certain abuse and also giving out a hand in helping the parrots that are already in the wild. They are basically an outreach program which places parrots in peril into their protective custody. The organization believes that there are abandoned, abused parrots out there that they can help of perhaps or in need of a home for any reason. The individual bird’s best interest is always a priority and well being of the present flock is taken into account and will determine if a parrot is accepted into the organization.
The Bird Gardens of Naples actively supports working in tandem with other parrot welfare groups, the veterinary community, animal welfare organizations, conservation organizations and the general public. They maintain that educating the public about our lovely feathered friends is of utmost importance concerning and the well being of a parrot and its ability to successfully assimilate with human living and with nature as a whole is something that should not be neglected.
The organization’s bird sanctuary, located in Corkscrew Swamp, is home to more than 300 happy birds that come in different bright hues. There are macaws with red, yellow and green feathers and cockatoos that have white feathers but surprise you with the bright yellow patch under their wings. The birds can be witnessed dancing, squawking and singing and, of course, talking all day long. All birds are, of course, given the best care possible by the stewards, volunteers, donors and the experts that run the sanctuary.
Aside from birds guests are also treated to a variety of flora and fauna as well as buzzing bees and colorful butterflies. You may book tours in advance and they last for two hours and this features many miles of walking trails filled with the beauty of nature. All the 300 plus birds that come from all over the world will be there to greet you as you take pictures of them. Birds can be fed but only with unsalted nuts and peanuts are very much discouraged. And the best part of this tour is that it is all free of charge.
The sanctuary has been in robust operation thanks to the generous donors who make things happen but as the sanctuary upgrades its services to both man and fowl; they need more help so they still accept donations from kind-hearted souls. You may even sponsor a bird. If there is a certain bird you like, you can give donations to the organization to make sure your favorite bird is well taken care of. Or, better yet, you may adopt one. The organization allows the adoption of their birds although they will have to make sure that the adopters are capable of taking care of the parrot.
Overall, The Bird Gardens of Naples bird sanctuary sounds like a nice place to be in so it is something you should include in your checklist.
