Cars have always been a part of life in the region of Southwest Florida. The love between man and machine has always had a mark in its history. In the 1930’s there had been a research facility in the region that helped in the manufacture of rubber tires. In the 1940’s land and air vehicles were up and about as there were military bases in the area which handles the training of new recruits that would be sent to fight in World War II. Today, there are museums that capture the elegance and the sheer beauty of the classic cars and even some train parts. But nothing excites automotive enthusiast more than the Autocross.
Autocross is an attraction for car junkies that gets them to test out the performance of their machines in a cost-efficient and very legal way. These events are held in open areas with enough pavement for tricks and cool demos for powerful vehicles that drivers could not otherwise do in a speed-regulated highway. These Autocross events usually last from a few to several days. Enthusiasts gather and show off their rides in display during the first few days in the event, then at the culminations, they test it out roaring engines and all. Luckily, there are former military airfields in the region, particularly in Fort Myers that are perfect for such gatherings.
In the tarmac, you could see cars lined up and revved up for the event getting all pumped up for the high-performance driving which is the highlight of every Autocross event. Entering the event is pretty easy and it’s usually open for everyone. A new set of tires and suspensions and a few modifications and you’re basically set. An enthusiast can be in with just a thousand dollars of budget annually, however some may even go as high as half a million annually, it all depends on your preference and budget capabilities. Nevertheless, so long as you’re a car addict, you can join.
Once you have that covered, you can now go to the tracks and show off you drifting and precision driving skills by maneuvering over orange cones that were set out to form an obstacle track. The excitement, adrenaline, horsepower, speed and skills are all unparalleled in these Autocross events. People both young and all congregate and express their warmest of love for their machines while at the same time, getting to know each other for making new business contacts or just simply new friends. No matter what your drift is, Autocross events are sure to get you up and running, and you can experience it here in Southwest Florida.
