It is believed that the discovery of fireworks began with the discovery began quite by accident more than 2,000 years ago in ancient China when a Chinese cook who was working on a field kitchen, accidentally mixed a few ingredients commonly found in the kitchen of that time, namely charcoal, sulfur and saltpeter. When they tested it, they found that this new mix has the ability to explode; and thus, the first ever fireworks display happened.
Fireworks, and later gunpowder, has such a long and deep history that would be too much for this article to cover, but fast forward hundreds of years later in the newly independent United States of America, Founding Father John Adams dreamed of having fireworks at the signing of The Declaration of Independence. And, in July 4, 1777, this historic and momentous occasion was celebrated by much pomp, music, parade and fireworks. And from then on, every Fourth of July, the country celebrates it the way John Adams wanted it, which is with fireworks display.
And in New Year’s, it has been a tradition to welcome the New Year with a bang. Many ancient cultures from different parts of the world had long held beliefs that loud noise and banging can keep evil spirits away from any house or village and that’s where the people from the modern times got the tradition of making noise through fireworks as a way of keeping the bad things away and inviting in good luck.
