Florida is truly a stunning place with much bio-diversity and also a high urbanized area in many of its cities. It’s this marriage of nature and man-made wonders that make Florida live up to its moniker as “the sunshine state” and likewise make it attractive to many young people or, should we say, millennials. Florida has many things that would take the interest of a 90’s kid who’s making their way on to the workforce and into life.
One such thing would be the gym. Since many young people are fitness buffs and would like to have themselves ready for the next Instagram and Facebook post, gyms are an important aspect of a young American’s life. Nightclubs and bars are also a hit among the young because where else would the young sow their wild oats; so Florida has many of those too, and finally, the very thing a millennial can’t live without – solid Internet connection. This means, cities with highly accessible broadband is as congenial to support the life of millennial as clean water to marine species.
With that said, Money-rates.com has made a study on Best and Worst States for Millennials 2017. For them to determine what makes a state conducive for millennial living and what drives them to live in or perhaps move to such a state, they have looked into eight factors, some of which we have already mentioned above:
Job market for young adults (U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics)
Young adult proportion of population (U.S. Census Bureau data)
College tuition affordability (Four-year in-state cost data from the College Board)
Residential rental availability (U.S. Census Bureau data)
Residential rental affordability (U.S. Census Bureau data)
Access to high-speed broadband internet (Federal government’s National Broadband Map)
Concentration of bars relative to the young adult population (U.S. Census Bureau data)
Concentration of fitness facilities relative to the young adult population (International Health, Racquet & Sportsclub Association)
The first place was on North Dakota because of its high young adult population and it low unemployment rate for young adults ages 20-24. Next on the list was South Dakota, followed by Nebraska, which like the first two, offers good employment opportunity for young adults and apparently has a wild nightlife. Florida was ranked 14th on the 2017 list. It may not be at the top 10 but it certainly is a good spot out of 50. But with more development when it comes to infrastructure and tourism on the way, things are looking good or the future of millennials in the Sunshine state.
We’ve discussed in a previous article how Florida, especially in Naples area has home properties that are much affordable compared to the busier more congested states like in Washington or New York. And oh, did we mention you get to have a nice view of the ocean? Furthermore, state colleges are well funded here and there are several private schools for you to choose from too, so you’re never out of options when it comes to education. Finally, Florida has an upbeat night scene that always brings in star athletes and celebrities to the clubs.
