Local businesses are the lifeblood of any working economy. Big major corporations do help stimulate the local economy, that’s true, but that does not mean that we take the small players for granted. We have written several articles that emphasize the importance of a strong economy that’s backed up by an equally strong local economy sector. We also demonstrated how interdependency among locals can foster a self sufficient region where one industry benefits from another. This has always been effective in the past and it has only proven its worth as the years and the generations come to pass.
Supporting the local industries is crucial to a state’s financial and economic success. The reason why farmers from Naples, Florida organize themselves during weekends to bring only the freshest produce to the local populace is because they know it’s an effective way of selling their products to as many locals as possible. And they’re right. Farmers’ Markets have sprung all across Naples, Florida and they are always filled with crowds looking for those juicy tomatoes, those crunchy cabbages and the most delectable cheese. Wines are a hit too. People can’t wait to bag some bottles. Local produce always gets sold out at a blink of an eye because customers are getting more and more discriminating in their tastes.
The more this goes on the more the money circulates within a given area and that’s always good news when you want to keep the economy afloat.
On the other hand, if we take a look at the corporations, we see a different kind of story. When a large corporation makes a venture on a certain place, they do provide jobs which do something for the local economy one way or another, seeing as how this makes for a suitable living for the people employed. But let’s not forget that corporations establish themselves in order to gain profit. So when they do land in, say, Naples, Florida. They do their business here, then take the profits from it and then what happens is that the profit only gets distributed within that company. The money, stops circulating within the local economy but instead circulated only within the confines of that said company. We know that this sounds quite controversial but we do believe that major corporations are detrimental to a local economy’s growth.
This is why it’s important for us to buy local, because no one else would buy these products and use these services apart from the locals themselves. The small businesses are the foundation, the very cornerstone of a stable local economy. We can help bolster growth and progress within the local community simply by choosing what your neighbors have over what came from the outside. A self sufficient society that’s mechanized by interdependency of each local industry sector is the gold standard that we all must aspire to achieve. The sooner we realize this, the sooner we reach this result. The large corporations can take care of themselves. Friends do not let friends buy from corporations.
