We’ve been through this for a long time and still this question hasn’t died: Is the Bigfoot real? It doesn’t matter what you call it, Yeti, Sasquatch, Gargantuan whatever, you know the story: 7-10 foot tall hairy, ape-like giants who run around the woods, very shy, very elusive beings that somehow can’t be captured using a good quality camera; though it is only fair to point out that there are a few really good quality shots out there on the internet and a few drone shots but then people would then say that it’s too good to be true.
On the other hand, if it’s recorded on a bad camera, people will say it’s too blurry and so it’s fake, so we’re not really sure what to say about this but either way that sure does not get us anywhere closer to a very definitive answer. A man in an ape-suit or a creature unknown to science?
In the swamps of the Everglades and the preserves of Florida such as Big Cypress, they’re called the Skunk Ape. Aptly named for their pungent smell according to eyewitness or should we say, nosewitness accounts. They are described to have the smell of rotten eggs and methane, probably from their waste products that have dried up on their thick gorilla-like hair and the eggs being attributed to the fact that they live around alligator nesting sites and must have raw eggs as part of their diet. They are known to be bipeds and can weigh up to 300 pounds. They are known to be solitary beings but some reported to have seen them in groups of 7 or 8 sometimes. A group of Skunk Apes is known as a ‘troop’.
They seem to live a nomadic existence and are always seen doing hunter-gathering activities. One recent video (with a somewhat decent quality) depicts a large gorilla-like creature, huge with black hair all over its body, tearing apart a stump tree. This seems to indicate that they feed on termites and ants. Another was captured in camera recently in Lettuce Lake Park Florida in 2015, a large ape-like creature wading through the muddy swamp, in between the small trees. The video stated that the one who recorded the video said that if that was some person in an ape suit he would be a total moron trudging through a gator infested area with cottonmouth and other deadly snakes. The owner showed the footage to a park ranger and they both agreed that bears do not move like that and that they generally avoid swampy areas so it could not have been a bear. Some argued that the site on which that was taken was so close to civilization, being it close to a college where the ROTC students even use the swamp for their drills, so it was moot.
Well, that’s interesting and all but one may also argue that people have been talking about the bigfoot for over a hundred years. Individuals have spent decades of their lives and there had been so many documentaries made yet we are not yet any closer to the truth. So much so that if these creatures were real, somebody must have shot and killed one by now and these creatures must have been already brought to the biologist and the zoologists for study. But, we can debate and theorize about this for as long as we want but the fact remains that we might be far from the truth of the matter. Well, we suppose only time can tell about the truth of the uncanny Skunk Ape.
