Renting a charter is something that would be ideal if you wish to tour around the Paradise Coast. There are numerous charter rental companies from Fort Myers down to the Everglades which has guides and captains that are very knowledgeable in their field. The great condition of the boats and the know-how of the people who handle them make your trip down the Gulf of Mexico not only fun but educational as well. Being on a boat gives you a sense of freedom you can only experience in Southwestern Florida. So, we will give you three ways on how to experience this awesome and unique feeling that you can’t find anywhere else.

Keewaydin Island

Just a little bit north of Marco Island is where Keewaydin Island is. This is a small island with a beach just roughly about 9 miles long and it’s only accessible by boat. It gives a feel of being separated from civilization so you can be more attuned to nature. The island is also part of a conservatory and this is why you, apart from ospreys and hawks, may spot Loggerhead turtles from time to time since a part of the island is their nesting place. You can enjoy a nice walk along the white sand beaches and then take a dip on its cool waters.

Cape Romano

Another thing you can see while you’re on your boat is on Cape Romano. There are weird dome-like structures that jut from the shallow waters near one of the beaches. White painted ruins that look ancient.  These bizarre looking buildings were once the home of Bob Lee, and engineer who liked experimenting on ideas. He built his home in such a way that would seem futuristic and even added solar panels as he was constructing them back in the early 80’s. However, the water and hurricanes made the place where his house stood unlivable so the place got totally abandoned; turning it to what it is today.

Fishing

Anglers of all level of experience race to the deep of the Gulf of Mexico to catch game fish and they are available all year round. Snook, tarpon and sea trout are the common catch here. There are also fresh water fishes like snook and red drum that are notorious amongst kayakers. There are tons of great fishing opportunities both in salt and in freshwater, so if you want to have something to brag about once you get back on land then the waters of the Paradise Coast would be the perfect goldmine.

For more opportunities to be had on boat whether it’s out on the gulf where sea gulls and dolphins join you or in the winding waterways covered in cypress trees and mangrove forests, visit Southwest Florida.
