The choir is a not-for-profit organization that operates within the state of Florida and aims to bring quality choral music to the local community. Aside from conducting concerts here and there, the choir also actively engages in teaching choral lessons to everyone by handing over scholarship to students who have a keen interest in musical arts.
The choir as an organization had its humble beginnings in 2002. Seven music loving people who met on a Superbowl Sunday thought that starting a chorale organization may be a good idea. This idea is ambitious as it is daunting and there was nothing they could start on, no money, no rehearsal venue and most importantly, there were no singers. But that did not stop them from their pursuit of the arts anyway.
Thus, the Voices of Naples was born; a non-profit organization dedicated to the love of music. After this, the choir has almost instantly gained support from the people in Naples, Florida. The First Christian Church in Naples has allowed them to use some of their space for the choir’s rehearsal sessions. Letters were then sent all over the community to petition for support for the organization and they were not disappointed. Weeks after their first rehearsal, the group had collected 85 singers, far beyond from their targeted 60.
In March 2003, the chorale received a “charitable organization” status from the government of Naples, Florida and that also marked their first of their annual presentations.
The Voices of Naples is also committed to bolstering interest for young people in music by establishing a scholarship fund for high school senior students who show interest in pursuing their studies in vocal music or studies of similar nature. This scholarship grant was made possible by the people who actively donate to the organization and they have helped many students reach their goals for the past eleven years.
Recently, the Voices of Naples have been invited to the Vatican, in St. Peter’s Basilica. This, the chorale considers a great honor but at the same time humbling and rewarding. They were proud of this experience as well as the other Americans who happened to be there to witness them sing. They felt very welcomed by the people in Vatican and were treated like family, according to one of the members.
