It was destroyed by fire in 1912 and was rebuilt twice after that, once in 1926 and in 1960. Now it stands proud and offers a remarkable experience for all visitors.
So now that you’ve laid down your mat, popped up your colorful umbrella and put on your sun screen, here are a few fun ideas that are sure to make your stay fun and memorable.
1. Make a Sand Volcano
Sand castles are fun, let’s be clear about that. But if you’re vying for something unusual but awesome at the same time, why not go and make a sand volcano? It’s a great way to spend ‘science time’ with the kids if you brought them with you and don’t mind a little mess. So, if you want to give it a go, here are the things you need:
- Empty plastic bottle
- Baking soda
- Warm water
- Dishwashing liquid
- Vinegar
- Food coloring (optional)
- Spoon and funnel
Directions:
- Fill up your empty bottle about 3/4 full with warm water
- Create a mound using sand and form it around your empty bottle
- Add some of dishwashing liquid into the bottle
- Add a few tablespoons of baking soda
- Color your vinegar with your food dye
- Pour vinegar into the crater and boom!
2. Play beach volleyball
This can be a little tricky when it comes to materials but you might need something to act as your make-shift net and poles on either side. Once you got that covered, make sure you didn’t forget your beach ball and you can start playing with your friends and family. And what’s great about this is if it happens that your team isn’t even, playing beach volleyball is a great way to know other people that are with you in the beach.
3. Kayaking
Kayaking has been a regular activity for some people since ancient times. The earliest known kayaks date back as far as 4,000 years ago and were made of animal skin and light wood for the frame and sometimes whalebone. Today, it’s considered a leisure activity especially on watery places and the kayaks nowadays are mostly made of plastic, fiber glass and Kevlar. If you have no experience in kayaking and want to try it out or if not already at a beginner level, there are people and groups around Naples that offer hands on classes and training for those willing to do it. It is important to remember that while kayaking is a fun activity to do, you and your companions’ safety must come first.
4. Bird and marine wildlife watching
Walk down the wooden boardwalk that goes out into the sea and watch tons of wildlife in the hut that’s on the edge of the walk. See the Herring Gulls sweep across the sky together. Take pictures of the Herons and Egrets stride their long legs across the shore in search for something to eat. All these together with the Dowitchers and Willets make up the rich avian life in the coast. And don’t forget the dolphins and manatees nail those picture perfect moments in this beautiful paradise.
5. Fishing
Hook your bait and cast your rods because the Naples pier is perfect for fishing many different types of fishes. Many people find the boardwalk to be an ideal spot for their fishing activities and you may just say the same if you come and visit here.
